Puglia, the sun-drenched heel of Italy’s boot, has long captivated the hearts of travelers with its whitewashed towns, ancient olive groves, and dazzling azure coastline. But in recent years, this enchanting region has also captured the attention of Hollywood and international filmmakers, transforming its picturesque landscapes into breathtaking backdrops for some of cinema’s most memorable scenes. Daily routes are planned from the selected vessel’s base in Polignano a Mare, Monopoli or Mola di Bari. The skipper agrees feasible coastal stops according to duration, weather and sea conditions; the local itinerary guide explains the planning area.

Matera: A Cinematic Journey Just Inland

While geographically located in the neighboring region of Basilicata, Matera is so intrinsically linked with Puglia by proximity and cinematic fame that it warrants a special mention. This UNESCO World Heritage site, with its ancient cave dwellings (Sassi) carved into the rock, is one of the oldest continually inhabited settlements in the world. Matera has been a star in its own right, famously portraying ancient Jerusalem in Mel Gibson’s "The Passion of the Christ," and more recently, providing a thrilling backdrop for action sequences in "No Time to Die" (James Bond) and "Wonder Woman."

From your base in Puglia, a day trip to Matera is an unforgettable experience that perfectly complements your yachting adventure. Puglia Yacht Charter can arrange a seamless land transfer, allowing you to explore the labyrinthine Sassi, delve into its profound history, and witness a landscape that feels transported from another time. It’s an opportunity to immerse yourself in a truly unique cinematic setting, adding another layer of wonder to your luxury Italian escape.
